Default Need advice from people that know this car..

Hey guys.

I'm thinking about buying this car. my brother in law had an 01 ss 6 speed and my friend used to have a 00 3.8 auto. so I know what both can do. I just need advice from people that know their way around this car and can tell me what to look for before I leave one problem for another.

here's the car. I already checked out the website, it says the same info except it has 126k miles. I'm going saturday to look at it. what are some things I need to look at to know if it's worth buying? and is this a fair price? thanks guys

I think the first thing I'd look for is RPO code WU8 to verify that it is a real SS.

I can tell you those aren't the original SS wheels. 98' LS1 cars were down on power compared to their 99+ brethren, so the computer is also different, keep that in mind if you're planning on modding it. Those aren't stock headlights, so they're either been tinted or had a mod done to them where you cut the headlight housing out and black it out.

it looks pretty stock under the hood and everything appears to be there. I've highlighted some issues I can see from the pictures

This appears to have been hit at some point, see the body lines not matching correctly? (also notice the slight difference in color)

What is this bubbling effect on the rear quarter on the passenger side, at first I thought it was the photo

Then is showed up here as well, from a different angle.

I'd be coming in much lower then what they're asking for it, with the non-stock wheels, potential accident history and being a 98, I'd be coming in at the VERY most in the 5500 range

ah. I saw those but didn't think nothing of it. I'll check the carfax. and is that the only way to get the headlights out? I planned on swapping them back to stock. I don't really like the blacked out headlights. or the black wheels. and I knew they werent ss wheels. do you know what they're from?

they appear to be from a 300zx twin turbo 91-94ish

no, the headlights unbolt from the rad support, I think its a 10mm? If you end up buying it and want to sell those, let me know, I'll give you a couple bucks for them, I'll use them in the racecar.
