Default Need advice: how to clay bar

I have never used clay bar on a car before. I bought a Mothers california gold kit. Heres what I'm confused about. Do I wash, wax then clay bar? Or wash, clay bar then wax? Or wash then just clay bar and no wax. Also, I just waxed my car a week ago, will that be a problem? Do I need to get the wax off my car first?

Wash, clay bar then wax. When you clay bar, you are removing the caked on dirt and tar that washing alone won't get off and thus helps the wax stick better and give a better shine.

All you need to do is wash and then dry the car. With your kit I assume they gave you a spray bottle of lubricant, yes? Spray in a small area on the car, knead the clay and slowly glide the clay over the surface then wipe away the excess lubricant. Clay baring usually takes a while when its done right.

edit

A good washing should remove the wax and if not the clay bar will help there too.

Normally car wash soap is designed to NOT remove wax, If you plan on claying the car then use dish washing soap. This will strip the wax. The clay will remove the wax but it a little more work.
I like to flip the clay every 4 strokes and keep it good a wet. Now if you have a lot of bug or tar build up just leave the wax on (use car wash soap) as it will help with lubrication.

There is a lot of how too video on Youtube for claying.
