My Camaro is now my economy car
I used to live right next door to my place of work for 5 years and when the place went out of business, I was forced to drive my 97 3.8 Camaro daily all winter long when I got a new job. After many near wrecks and spin-outs, I vowed to get a winter vehicle ASAP. Well, I just bought a 1999 Tahoe with a 5.7 v8.
The price was right and with gas prices spiking, I jumped on it. Once it dawned on me that my Camaro just inherited "econo box" status I am hating the fact that I have a v6 more and more. I've always had V8 envy since I bought the Camaro back in 2006. I think once the Tahoe is inspected and tagged, I'm selling my sixer.
If I'm going to continue to own a Camaro, it really needs to be a Z or SS. I'm tired of kidding myself that a v6 is adequate. For me it's just not cutting it any more. The only thing I'm not sure of is, do I want to stick with 4th gen or move to 3rd gen? It will be fun deciding on what the next money pit will be.

If you get a 3rd gen, its not going to be much more powerful than the V6 that you have now. I would step up to a 4th gen V8 Camaro if your budget allows. If you decide to go with a 3rd gen, try to get a L98 350 equipped Camaro. Its the most powerful of the 3rd gens. Good luck.

especially if u getta 305 3rd gen. emissions bogged poop cars.. pretty much only made to say u have a v8....
u get a 3rd get with a 350 and u build it, and i mean build, not "OMG, I GOT A K&N FILTER AND BORLA EXHAUST!!!" (equivalent of no upgrades) you should have a pretty BA car.
if gas prices were spiking why did u jump on a 5.7L tahoe!!! that would be a gas job!

I hope you checked the fuel inline and gas lines out on the Tahoe. Rusting fuel and brake lines are pretty common. There was talk of a class action lawsuit. I did my 96 over the summer. What a huge PITA. The lines are not available yet. You have to make everything. I'll bet I have 60 hours in it. I can not even imagin what a mechainic would charge.
My Daily driver is a V6 and I have a tahoe. I only drive the Tahoe in bad weather. I still think my 3800 would out run the Tahoe on dry pavement any day. But I know what you mean, I picked up a 93 Z28 6 speed project car this year, once its done the V6 will be retired to one of my daughters.

Retired, is that what you call it? To one of my daughters would be more like putting it up for sacrifice.
