MY 2000 3.8 5spd HAS STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE I CANT FIGURE OUT!!
It has oil, it has coolant, the oil pressure is fine, its not running hot, but its making a knocking noise. When I first start it it dont make the noise even when I push the accelerator. But when I get driving and it warms up it starts knocking. It gets worse as the rpms increase. Its not throwing any codes , does anyone have any idea what it could be? I took off the valve covers and checked the lifters they seem to be fine but it did not sling oil everywhere when I cranked it. Please Help!!

Oil in the coolant is almost impossible. You do not have oil pressure running through the same gaskets as coolant. What you are seeing is the brown goo left behind by the orange coolant. It clumps up and looks just like oil. This has been covered dozens of times on this website.
Coolant in the oil is possible and that would make your oil look like a milk shake. How is your oil pressure? Does your gage drop really low when the car gets up to operating temperature? What I would call normal wear of an engine as it reaches the end of its life is the car would start fine but as it got warmer the oil pressure would drop to near zero then the bearing would knock at idle at first then go to all the time. How many miles are on it? I am not saying that is what it is there is test that would need to be done. You would need to test oil pressure first off. This all assumes you are talking about a lower end knock.
Maybe we should back up and upload a video of the car running. I would ask you to put the camera above the engine and under the car. A lower end noise will be a little louder under the car.
Since you are in the hot part of the US and if your car has high miles I would switch to 20w50 oil. The only reason these cars come with 5w30 is cold starts and tight bearing clearances. In a warmer area I would switch to 20w50 as soon as the car broke 100,000 miles.

Thank you for your reply but what I said was it has oil, and it has coolant. Not that there was oil in the coolant. And to answer your questions yes the oil pressure is fine and its not running hot.
However it does have over 150000 miles on it and I do put 5w30 in it so maybe i will change the oil and filter in the morning and put the 20w50 sounds like a good point since I live in Florida.
As for the video I will also take a couple videos tomorrow as well. I do believe it is a low end knock. I first thought it was the water pump cause it sounds like its coming from that area, but I took the belt off and started it for a min and the knock continued so I dont think its the waterpump or pulleys.

3800 failing is not common but low end knock is a way they are known to fail. When I bought my 96 it was with a lower end knock. I had to swap in a used motor. After that I did put 100K more miles on the used motor. You can check out the process in my 96 Camaro Build Thread (in my sig)
Most of the 3800 make it to 250,000 miles.
