I might as well spend some money and upgrade if I'm gonna be removing them. What would be some good ones that aren't that pricey?

What sensor/process picks up a/f readings to just one cylinder? What am I missing?
From what I could gather he has a 1998 Z28, which is OBD2 compliant and can detect individual cylinder misfires. Most OBD2 engines pick up individual cylinder misfires through the Crank Position Sensor. The ECM expects a momentary increase in crank speed when a cylinder fires but gets a momentary reduction on a misfire. The O2 sensor only detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust and does not measure the raw fuel being dumped there by a misfire. The unused oxygen dumped in the exhaust by the misfire is read by the O2 sensor as lean mixture causing the ECM to richen the mixture for no good reason. Checking with a scanner will show a positive fuel trim (fuel being added to make mixture richer). The engine can usually run on a rich mixture without misfire (unless it is rich enough to foul the spark plugs). In any event he should do a compression test and make sure there is a bad valve.

yes have someone do a compresion test,.you may only need minumal parts to fix it,then again sound like it may not even be the head ,? what kinda miles i allways ask does the car have , mabey your plugs are fouled to try pulling them check for the right color ligh brown ,.that check where you think it is is about $30.00 ,then find out cost to fix it ,the kinda heads you get does not matter ,but if you get ported heads ,you may get another 30hp ,for now get this checked out like camaro 69 said it may be .a crank postion .sencor.

The car has 112xxx miles and neighbor said the plugs/ wires are new not even 5 miles on them. I haven't had time to check them out. Yeah I'll get the compression test done by a friend to make sure.
