Default Motor Oil Help

Hey guys,

I am about to change the oil in my Camaro for the first time since I got it. I have no idea what the previous owner used, or when he last changed it. (first time buying a used car, forgot a lot of questions) anyways, My question is. I have enough 10w-30 to do the oil change, but I'm not sure if its safe to use. I know very little about oil viscosity's and the such.

Its a 1994, 3.4 V6.
with right around 120,000 miles.
I live in on the border of illinois and wisconsin
(I have heard that climate can play a role in oil choice)

any advice would be awesome.

Thanks.

From what I've read on here and been told, something such as a 5w is best for colder weather since it's thinner and can reach upper engine parts quicker in cold weather it's best. 5w-30 for cold weather and 10w-30 for warmer weather months is what I would go with.

I use 10w 30 all year and my weather gets down below -20. If you use synthetic you'll be fine with just 10w 30.
