Mild surging during acceleration & cruise
My 94 recently started surging/cutting out during acceleration from a dead stop and while cruising on the highway. The problem is very recent and very mild but, none the less is a problem. Any help would be much appreciated.
A little background; I bought the car new in 94 when I was in my twenties and did all the upgrades in the first year. After a couple run in's with the Judge I put the car away until I was in my thirties and after a couple more run in's with the Judge I put the car away until recently. Im now in my mid fourties and so far no Judges. The car has 38,000 original miles and still spanks the crap out of everything I come across. This time I have limited my antics to primarily on ramp assaults.

have it scanned for trouble codes, check fuel pressure, after setting that long i would go through all the maintenance stuff, plugs, fuel filter, air filter. plug wires and opti would be something i would consider. have it scanned first. could point the way and save some bucks.

Are there any videos or other helpful information on how to change plugs, wires and Opti Spark "Cap and Rotor"? The last time I did it at 30,000 miles I broke two wires and the back two cylinders on the passenger side were enough to make me want to torch the car.

small hands and arms come in handy with changing plugs and wires. the opti itself may be starting to fail. i would not recommend changing only the cap and rotor. the optical reader is effected by the gasses that the spark creates and will fail. life of an opti is normally in the range of 60 to 100k miles.

I finally got access to a code checker and two codes came up P2106 and P2138. They are somehow related to the Throttle Position Circuit/ Sensor but that was as close as I could get. Is there a source for more in depth information on this Forum?

what are you working on, p2106 and p2138 are ford trouble codes
gm codes start with p0
P0106 Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance Problem
P0138 02 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank I Sensor 2)

51 is prom error, better take the ecm out and see if the connections are damaged or not connecting, look for any indication of water. check connections to the harness that goes along the passenger side of the intake manifold. it looks like almost none of the things hooked to it are working right.

First of all, thank you Craby for continuing to monitor this thread. I have now removed the ECM and checked all of the connections to the ECM they are in tact and looked really good. The connectors were in good shape and no signs of water damage or damaged wires going to the ECM. Is there a way or would it be advisable to do a reboot or a reset to the ECM? In the meantime I am continuing to check connections along the passenger side of the manifold, so far everything looks good connection wise.
