Duration is comparable, but the LS series can run considerably more lift safely. The duration of the cam really doesn't matter what heads/block you're running, it just depends on how streetable you want the car. They make cams that have tons of duration and valve overlap for the traditional SBC too. Stock for stock the LS1 runs more lift, but not too much (LT1 is .447/.459; LS1 is .496/.496).

Blk93Z28: I can outrun an 05 GT with no internal mods on my LT1, I have a timeslip that says so. If you already have the LT1 you can make it a beast of a car for the amount of money you would spend on an LS1 car. That said, in overall potential the LS1 is going to be able to make more power (we're talking the extreme end of things though).

so my ss is about to get LT's, and a catless, dumped, true dual exhaust.
and in the fairly near future it will get a 232/236 cam. and i was told that with a tune and other small bolt ons, that set up should make @ 380-390rwhp.

all together the exhaust is about 1100 parts and labor. the cam is about 415 plus labor and tune. so all together 2000-2200 for nearly 400 hp. and i bought the car for 11k. but u can pick up z28's in decent shape for considerably less. sooooo my vote is to go with an ls1.

I bought my Z28 for $6000, I chose the best exhaust I could-$1000. I can get a head/cam package and all supporting mods for ~$3000.

$10,000 total cost with 450 RWHP and heads that flow good enough to support a 383 if I wanted.

Thats pretty good. I traded a dodge truck that I had $3500 in for my Z28. The car just turned 100k miles and just needs some paint work. Completely stock. It doesn't look quite as good as yours does slvr but I think I did ok . BTW nice rims! I imagine a rear gear, CAI, and exhaust should have me outrunning the GT so I'll stick with the LT1. It would be INSANE what I could do if I put 10 or 11k in this one!

Wow. An lt1/ls1 thread that didn't turn into a fight/flame fest. :P I'm impressed.

ls1>lt1 stock
ls1=(more or less)lt1 for all sorts of more than bolt on mods, since every setup is different, and you'll find 375-500 rwhp lt1s and ls1s equally often.
ls1>lt1 for all out performance. (Though if I remember right the fastest factory block 4th gen is an lt1. :P )

Z28rob, sounds like you're buying all the good stuff! Im not ganna go that crazy with mine. Maybe a 500hp stroked LT1 would be nice though......And who would've thought not a single fight about which is best lol.

Yeah man I guess so. I started reading some on your build and you shouldn't have any trouble getting that hp with the parts you're planning. I still need to catch up on it though so I'll talk to you on that thread. A 500 hp LT1 with a 200 or 300 shot would be alot of fun taking out those annoying mustangs! lol
