Default LS1 Valve noise?

Hello guys. I'm new here but I really need help. I recently purchaced a 1999 z28 with 113,000 miles. I started hearing a noise that sounds like valves clicking or rattling. When I first start the car it sounds like a loud rattle untill the oil pressure gets up to normal, then it seems to quieten to just a clicking sound. Dose anyone know what could be causing this, and what I can do to remedy it? Any help would be greatly appreicated

Every LS1 I have ever owned has the same clicking/rattling sound. I am pretty sure it's normal.

Obnoxious sometimes, but nothing to worry about. A nice loud exhaust will drown it out anyway.

Thanks for the reply I hope it's nothing serious. The Mrs. is already on my *** about me buying it. The last thing I need is it to have a major problem. She'll proably shoot me on the spot

Dont know what wt, it feels thin though. I've only had the car for 3 days. The oil pressure usually runs around 40 lbs at idle.

i wouldnt worry about it, they all tick a bit due to all the components in the value train. the culprit is usually the lifters losing oil pressure faster than they get pumped up ( really good video on youtube explaining how they work) so new ones will make it quiter but its not worth doing unless you plan on doing a cam swap etc and some head work. You have good oil pressure so that rules out the bottom end bearings really. Even so, with every car you buy you should always do an oil and air filter and oil change, least then you know its been done no matter what anyone says and you have piece of that it has good oil in. Usually use 5-30 (thinner in cold) than 10-30. the latter may quiten the value train down on startup.

Enjoy the camaro!!

thats pretty good oil pressure. does it hold after the motor warms? could it be exhaust leak, they can sound like a lifter. if its ticking and not knocking then its not likely a major issue.

Yup. The pressure holds good and goes up to around 50 or so psi. at 60 mph. I bought it about 150 miles from home and drove it back wihtout a problem. Oil,and temp both stayed in proper range. It always rattles at start-up, but sometimes it clicks for a little while sometimes it dosent, but the noise always seem to stop after its driven for about a 1/4 mile. Guess I'll just wait and see what happens. I was wating till the weekend to do my oil and air filter change so I would have all day to get to know my new ride on a more personal level. Thank ya'll so much for the help. I hope to post some pics soon, If it ever stops raining.
