Default ls1 to ls2

HI THERE GUYS HAVE A QUICK QUESTION my mechanic has his ls2 gto engine with fast 92mm intake, ported heads, custom cam, chromoly pushrods, upgraded springs and rockers, apparently his gto made 456 to the wheel, he says he can install it for 5000 with everything and i keep my engine! i was thinking about doing heads and cam on my car which would be around 3000. do you guys think i am getting a good deal or am i getting shafted? also what do ls1 engines go for if i plan on selling it

Heads and cam are gonna cost you 3 grand??? Wow that is one hell of a rip off... I'd say keep the original engine because you're going to need to alter the computer/wiring as well as your fueling.

Not to mention the LS2 is a larger engine that will not mount right up to your K-member. So you're gonna need custom motor mounts.

Not to mention you'll need a new bellhousing if you have a M6 or a completely different transmission if you have an A4. With that you'll need a new driveshaft because the engine will be in a different position with custom motor mounts.

The multitude of things that will have to be added along with these few I mentioned make it hugely not worth the money. Does the mechanic know it's going to require that much work and extra parts?

It's not like you just drop it in and drive. Your gauges won't work either. Nor will half of your electronics in your car =)

Hmmm. Its not that hard of a swap now a days. Not trying to steep on your toe's evilcal but with some of the new conversion kits that are out for the F-body its not that bad. I would say 5K for the full swap would not be that bad if you wanted to go that way. And a LS2 can make 450 with no problem with a very mild head/cam package with no problem but i would get more details and make sure your not just buying a LS2 with a Fast manifold on it.

Also keep in mind a lot depends on what heads we are talking about here. Its been some time but depending on whats heads we are talking about the price can range from 1100 to about 2500 bucks.

If your mechanic is talking about a good head/cam package installed and tuned for 3K then i would say the price is about right.
