I hear ya! They dont look toooo terribly bad looking up from the bottom while on the lift. If I didnt have the Kwik Lift, Id be skeered!! I have done the plugs, wires and Optis on LT-1's in Vettes, but not ant F body as of yet...

One good thing about all this is I really have had a great opportunity to get in all the nooks and crannies and clean up the engine itself and engine bay. Pulled off a few things like the idler, alternator etc. cleaned up behind them did a little touch up with some black VHT engine paint... Things are looking real nice for a high miler!

Of course Ill post up some pics when shes all back together.

Heard from MSD yesterday and they shipped my opti out. I should have it by Monday/Tuesday next week. The turn around was faster than they first estimated...

I spoke with the tech who personally called me. He said they had a run of distributors that had bad optical sensors.. Sometimes they were not sending the signal to the ECM, sometimes they would. That explains why the car would run fine some of the time and not at all other times.

So, they basically replaced all the internal parts with new updated hardware as well as a new cap and rotor. Total cost with shipping both ways was about $147.00

I guess if you guys come accross any MSD optis that are inop, and can get them cheap, send them in for a rebuild and be $$ ahead in the end!

Default Installed

Came in last night, installed it. Now, I wait for either rebuilding the AC compressor or buy one....I thought it would be alot easier to do now while everything is apart. I just HATE waiting.

did you get electrical grease on the connections and plug wire ends, i put gasket maker/rvt where the wires come out and on the o ring that seals the cap. did you get thread lock on the rotor screws?

I used permatex electrical grease on the plug wires at both ends. And I did Loctite the rotor screws also. I did not use rtv on the o ring or where the harness exits the body....I will do that tonight when I get home from work...on lunch now.
