Looking to improve mpg. tips?
So, Im not looking to make the car do 30 mpg city, but today i calculated how much gas my car is using. I put roughly 6 gallons in, and only went 65 miles. Thats only 10 miles to the gallon. If I had loads of per formance mods on the car I would accept it. But the car is 100% STOCK. I have new plugs and wires, new fuel filter, 2 new injectors, cleaned the other 4. I am not sure if its from carbon build up or what. But if you have any ideas it be great to hear some opinions. Thanks guys
im assuming its a 3.4, have it scanned for trouble codes and let us know what numbers they are. could be a few things. plugged cat, failing temp sensor, maf, egr, evap, or a fuel leak or high fuel pressure.
You would have to go to a GM dealer. 96 and newer GMs are OBD2 so they are scanned with a Tech 2 by GM. OBD1 GM cars were scanned with a Tech 1. I'm not sure if anyone else besides a GM dealer would have a OBD1 or Tech 1 scan tool for your car.
I think they would, but just for a scan, I'm not sure. We have customers come into my dealer asking us to just pull the code for them, but I never asked the service writer if we charged them or not for it. If they do charge you, I doubt it will be much. Best bet is to call your nearest GM dealer service department and ask them what they would charge.
You dont need to take it to GM and yes GM will charge you $60 just to scan the codes. Most auto part stores have scanners but not all have OBD1 units. My store can scan it, but I dont think you live in my neck of the woods. Like Caotic said, check the local O'Reilly stores they usually have the scanner that can do both.
