Default Let's say that...

Let's say that, hypothetically, I buy a 4th Generation Chevrolet Camaro. Let's say that I pay 6,000 dollars. So, I'm left with 1,000 dollars left.

What kind of performance modifications could I do to get maximum performance with this ammount of money?

Hypothetically, I have already performed an in-depth tune up, replaced all spark plugs, all hoses, re-wired it, blah blah blah.

So how much of a performance gain could I get with 1,000 dollars?[/align]

EDIT: By the way, I'm not looking to turn this into a ricer, so performance modifications only, please.

This isnt a ricer freindly community justa FYI....

You could get exhaust. Cam. intake. what year camaro is it so I know what motor it is....LT1 or LS1. Or is it a V6 3400 or 3800?

LS1's cant make power really easy. While the LT1 while is good can be slightly harder to mod.

Let's see. Well first you're going to want to get a new wing. The camaro spoilers are really low and are bad because you don't get enough downforce at high speed. Then you need to gut you cat (this one is free and will give you like 80hp). And spend the rest on some 20 inch rims and stickers.

Nah, j/k.

But really start with an exhaust. If you go with flowmaster or magnaflow the catback should run you around $300-$400 depending on the place and the year/engine of the car. If you get 97 and lower you'll want a CAI, if you go with 98+ the stock intake is pretty good and replacing the filter with K&N will suffice. There's also a "free mod" that you can do to your airlid, so ask about that if it is going to apply to you. Next on my list would be some headers which would be around $400 more. Then I'd get a one piece aluminum driveshaft to lower the rotational mass (you can find those for about $150 if you know where to look). And there goes your $1000.

Go for bolt-ons before you do anything internal like a cam, you need the good flow in and out of the motor before you can get any real gains. $1000 will be eaten up pretty quick, a good CAI and cat back will take most of it, and a good header/Y-pipe system would probably put you over your $1000 limit.

I also concur lol. I plan on buying as many bolt ons as i can as well as buying either a crate LT1 or a used one (which id have to clean up) and then building it up bottom to top. By that time id have the car secure for high power outputs and when my 124,100mile lt1 goes out on me ill throw in the new one and hopefully a new worked over 4L60E with gears and the whole she-bang... but its going to take YEARS... im just excited i cant friggin wait to get this project rolling.. i have a shopping list of mods on my bedroom wall that im going to check off as i go.

well first step is for the OP to return and tell us what motor is in the car.

I will assume that since it was only $6k and you are into speed its an LT1, and if thats the case then whats been said, CAI, headers, y-pipe, catback. the enxt step i would say is a tune. we will need to know the year to know if its a OBDI or OBDII because that will effect how the tune is done. if you wanna go all out, id say LT4 heads, hot cam, stall (if its auto), gears (3.73 or bust) and youll be golden.

if its an LS1 then first off, you got a great deal. start off with a lid and doing the free ram air mod (ask if yo dont know what that is) and a K&N drop in filter. dont waste the money on the FIPK II. get headers and catback too. now for the LS1, depending on years id get the LS6 manifold (if its 98-00) or a cam (01-02) to get the hp up, but only after intake and exhaust.

you can get used parts for VERY cheap, theres lots of people demodding. This will free up more money to do more work.
