Hey, I'm not against all of those "mechanic in a can" products, some of them actually do work. But it is a bandaid and most of the time they are putting off the inevitable, and buying you extra time. I'd certainly try one (and have) if I was at the "got nothing else to lose" stage and was otherwise facing having to rip an engine or trans apart. I have a friend who has a badly slipping automatic trans (worn clutches), and the low value of the car doesn't warrant him spending money on a replacement. He periodically taps off some fluid, and adds some Lucas slip fix additive. So far, that has bought him well over two years and about 50k miles. A "mechanic in a can" can buy you some extra time, so use that time to prepare (either time wise or financially) to fix whatever it is once the stuff stops helping.

I understand your point, and I know that's what it's for, just a bandaid.. I don't know.. some of that stuff just seems like it would be more harmful in the long run. Whatever works I guess, I'm just super paranoid about my cars.

I was too. But I didn't have the money to have my head gaskets redone so I did that. I've been driving it ever since with no issues lol

It's Chaotic lol I assume that was a typo and no pun intended. However, I do not plan on redoing my head gaskets. Not until it gets bad again. Which I doubt if it will since it hasn't yet. If it does, I'll let you know what happens lol
