Default Issue with starter

Ok so yesterday I went to start my 94 camaro lt1. started to turn then stopped. Like the engine seized or something else did preventing the started from turning. Tried again and just a noise of the starter getting power but not turning the engine. Tried couple more times and engine turned and started up fine.

Drove to my buddies and went to leave got a loud screech. Tried again and same thing. Then it stopped making the screech noise and sounds like the starter is turning fine but making a slight grinding noise. Not loud and annoying but doesnt sound good. From the noise the best I can tell is the gear on the starter isnt aligned or is stripped, or broke.

Any Ideas? havent been able to get under the car since its raining.

Sounds like the bendix is not engaged could be as simple as the starter is loose, but probly time for a starter, keep using it and it will also be time for a flywheel, flex plate too

^^^ agree sounds like the starter is toast. would be a good idea to clean the battery terminals and cable ends with a wire brush. make sure the battery is charged as well. a low battery can make the starter act weird.

Well worked on the camaro this morning. Seems the flywheel has a section of teeth knock off. About 2 inches are missing. Possibly the start gear does as well, however I didnt remove the start only unbolted it and the trans shroud for the flywheel. Moved the flywheel a bit and it starts up but from the way it does it sounds like the missing teethe section is coming around to the starter gear pretty quick. Not sure how fast the fly wheel turns around, but i suspect the starter gear has missing teeth as well. Id replace but i dont have a garage and its freezing outside. Not to mention i cant replace the flywheel since i cant remove the trans.

if i do also have to replace the starter, what other years/models can I get a starter from? Autozones price for a starter is ridiculous. Also do any headers made for a chevy 350 or ls fit the LT1? Any other engines that could have swappable headers?

93 to 97 camaro, 92 vette. no standard 350 headers wont work in a 4th gen camaro, lt1 4th gen is pretty exclusive. im using a powermaster 9502 now with a insulator and its working great, not sure on how the 9202 wears. tried a tuff stuff and it didnt last long. check summt

Get a voltmetter to test the voltage the starter is giving out, or take it to get tested. When I thought mine was toast I found out I had to get my battery replaced because of a dead cell.

the flywheel has to be an external ballance flywheel for a single piece rear seal, 153 tooth. i would say pre 86 will not work.
