Default Infamous Overheating Issue - Quick Question

Hey All,

I've read through every post I could find about the infamous overheating issue with many 4th gen Camaros. I have a 97 SS, and I have a quick question for the group:

My engine temp runs great while driving on the freeway, but as soon as I begin idling or get stuck in traffic, the temp climbs, and climbs, and climbs. It drops back down to normal temp when I turn on the heater, but otherwise it wont stop and will redline.

Is this the ECT sensor being bad? I don't believe it's the relay or fan motor since everything works great when the heater is on. Unless a different relay is used to force the fan on when the heater is used?

Thanks in advance!

Tom

the fan will come on with the a/c, so your fans are not coming on at the right temp or not at all? do they only come on when the a/c or heater is turned on?

could be the temp sensor. on mine the temp sensor is on the water pump and the temp gage sensor is on the driver side head between 1 and 3 plugs. im not sure if the 97 has two as well. check and if you have two you can test em.

It wouldn't hurt to check the relays for the fans. One guy suggested that I swap the the three relays for the fans. Fans kicked on after moving the relays around on mine.
