Didn't mean to hit a sore spot. But let me say this. I've owned about 6 -7 Camaro's. Some with 6's and others with V-8's. After owning the Z-28's, I would never own a 6 cylinder. (I think most owners would say the same. The Z-28 with a 6 speed and loud exhaust is a TOTALLY different driving experience. Yes. the 6 is SLOW in comparison. Not saying a 6 is a bad choice, but it will not put a smile on your face like the Z. The 6 rag top can be a fun car to drive and own, but why pay exactly the same money and not get the thrill of the V-8. On days you don't want to go fast, don't push so hard on the gas. Stick by my original statement. Enjoy your 6.

The 3800 5 speed I had was fun to drive. The handling was nice and there was tons of improvement you could do to make it even better. The 5 speed is noticeable more torque. The automatic robs about 20% of the HP with the manual using less than 10%.
The LS1 is a nice upgrade. But you do pay for it. Also on paper the the LS1 is not much more powerful than the modern V6s, To that I say drive one. The torque is higher and torque curve is low, That means it will set you back in your seat and smoke the tires much better than a v6 with the same HP rating.
After I totaled my 2000 LS1 automatic I went with a GTO LS1 6 Speed manual. There was a huge improvement in around town driving. But I do not think the GTO is better around corners or on the highway do to aerodynamic. In hindsight a late 4th gen LS1/6 speed would have been a better fit for me.

Nice looking Camaro! I have a 97 V6 and it is fun to drive and may not be as fast as a Z28 but it is not slow. Mine is a fun car to drive. Good luck!
Gorn,
I have a ‘97 with 3800 and less then 100k miles. I have not had any trouble with the intake gasket. It has been well maintained and runs great. Do you suggest the gasket is changed as preventative maintenance or will I know when it needs changed? Thx!
