Default Ignition spark tester

Has anyone used these before?
http://www.sulco.co.nz/products/598/...um/3203405.jpg

Just bought one to make sure I am getting good spark from my coils and wires since I have a misfire. If all looks good I will move on to a spark plug tester so I can rule out "spark" in my misfire diagnosis.

Should I remove the fuel pump fuse or anything, or just hook it up to each cylinder and test?

I read somewhere that the ls1 ignition puts out 40KV, but I will start my test with 20KV.

Thanks for any input.

No. I used a more fun method. Pull the plug wire and stick a spark plug in it, then find one of my buddy's who or dumb enough to hold the spark plug

but sure it would come in handy for some one who does not know what to look for on spark. I just stick a extra spark plug in the each wire and watch it, worked for years.

Right, just ground the plug and same thing. But this has an adjustment to see how good the spark is, and if it will put out a fill 40kv. I just used it yesterday and noticed my spark is inconsistent on a couple cylinders that may be my misfire cause..

There is always a little inconsistency on spark per each plug. A little is ok, look for the 1 or 3 cyls that as the largest difference (poor spark) to narrow it down.

Does your car give a misfire code?

No misfire codes being thrown. I have the android torque app with the obd2 adapter and it's showing cylinders 1 and 5 are misfiring in the current misfire count.

Cylinder 1 looked to have a weak spark, so I will first switch the wires, than plugs and coils to see if the misfire moves to isolate the problem.

One step closer to figuring it out, but it will probably be snowing here by the time I get it fixed lol. Just my luck.
