Ignition issue...Is this supposed to be here ?
thats unburnt fuel in the exhaust burning up. mine will pop just a little if i rack er up and let off. full backfire would indicate a very rich condition with a posible misfire thrown in.
After driving with these conditions, they seem to be getting better oddly enough. Still breaking up and popping around 3k-4k, but goes away after 4k, Low RPM (under 1600 in low gears, under 2k in higher gears) still lacks power though.
Maybe the computer had to learn? whats the process in resetting it since I re-did the entire ignition system minus the opti...?
I think I will be getting an opti anyway since im also doing the water pump. I saw one on rockauto for around 200-250$, whats the story with thoes...?
Also on an unrelated note, im getting "rocking" like a back and fourth movement in my driveline while slow coasting or shifting. I did the tranny mount, but with a rubber one(might swap to poly). Could the torque arm be causing this? If so should i go with rubber or poly bushings?
they have a good deal going too with that coupon code. Might have to grab it

I would stay away from the Cardone rebuilt Opti units!! Trust me here I sell them and the ones at Advance are the same as the ones I sell at O'reilly. (I have worked for both companies). Buy the new one, O'reilly sells Richporter which makes a really nice one that is lifetime warranty with a cap and rotor. Also when the cap and rotor need replacing you can just bring in the whole opti unit and get it all replaced for free under warranty. (saves $200 for the cap and rotor).
I am not totally convinced it is all in the Opti, I would if I were you either do a compression test or measure the lift of the cam lobes at the rockers to make sure you dont have a flat cam.

That one is new, and I just bought it on impulse, I figure its worth a shot, and if not, its gonna go bad one day or another. It has a lifetime warentee aswell, and if it turns out its not the opti, ill resell it somewhere for 180$ and take the 20$ loss
I will also be checking the rockers since i hear a slight tick under there...whats the best way to do it with the engine running, in my jeeps I6 i just popped the cover with it running and tightend it until it stopped

far as i know all cardone are rebuilt. if you unhooked the battery then you reset the computer. rich condition can be caused by failing injectors and or failing 02 sensors, are you smelling fuel in the exhaust or oil. if the opti is old it could be the problem.
Cardone is what I've been running on mine which I got from work (Advance Auto) since it was cheapest and I was strapped for cash and I haven't had trouble with it. It is a reman'd unit, but with the Lifetime warranty, I'm not worried because I know Advance would replace it even if I didn't work there. But I'd buy new if you could afford it.
Also, with rockers, the way you did it in your Jeep is the same way I've done it in my car. I'm surprised you even got the ticking to stop in a 4.0 in a Jeep. From all the one's I've seen, that came stock.

Thats what i figured, even if it craps out ill get another one for free, verses buying the 500$ MSD and having it potentially fail in 10k miles...
And i used to build up jeeps, I know everything about everything when it comes to XJs. thats why im going half crazy with this Z, its a wholeeeee worlds difference from a lifted trail rig
