Default I think my rear end is about to go....

I have a 98 ss camaro wit about 129xxx miles for the past few months my rear end will make a somewhat howling noise, normally when im in 6th just cruising. Also when coming to a stop, I can let of the gas and it will make a tick noise...sooo It's gotta the be rear end. I would like to replace the gears with probably 3.73s and I would like to do it right, the gears bearings and whatever else. I'm normally a ford guy and I know pretty much nothing about camaros. So could anybody lead me in the right way of what brand to go with, where to find it at. I would highly appreciate it.

My rear end was howling at 50mph and up as well when I bought it. Turns out it was just a wheel bearing that needed changed. And now it's good as new.

Well it sounds like more than just bearings. Like the clicking noise while I let off the throttle and get back on it, mainly around low speeds where I can actually hear it. And the other day I dropped it down a gear and got on it and heard I guess you could say a thump from the back. I'm in a position at the moment where I can blow some money on it so I want to do the gears, bearings and whatever else while I'm at it...but I don't know where to find good ones at.

I had a 96 with a slight howl in the rearend, and it was pretty much determined that it was the wheel bearings. But I sold it before it got to the point to where it really needed to be fixed.
Picture the axles in a straight across line. With worn and sloppy outer wheel bearings, the weight of the car can make the axle tweak and pivot downward, at the splined end of the axle. The center section of the rearend doesn't like that extra down-force, and will sometimes complain with a whine.

Well it's just that. Replace the wheel bearings and see if it still does it. Also mine was just the driver side. So when taking a hard right turn fast it got louder and when taking a left turn it got quieter. The part was about $60 per side. Then I paid someone else to install it. That was about $100 for both side on the installation. If you have any other questions, PM me.
