That perhaps your engine may have gotten hotter than you think it did, or that the gauge thought it did. Is/was the engine still full of coolant?

Was it the temp sending unit (for the gauge) on the head, or the temp sensor (for the computer) on the intake that melted?

The onn on the head melted, and I ordered one from my local advanced, but they pulled the wrong one, so now i have to wait.... ALSO, as I was replacing my wires I came across my EGR and one of the mounting bolts that go into the exhaust broke of halfway down, now my EGR is just loose, So now I have to get one of those aswell

Jeeeez, it just keeps getting better, doesn't it? Could be while your engine was suffering from heat stroke, the exhaust manifolds were glowing red. That's what it sounds like to me.

So what could that mean? It starts up fine with the new wires in but i have yet to drive it because of the sensor and now the EGR valve!

You know you can down load the GM shop manuals? I wish they where around when I was starting would have saved me over a hundred bucks.

the coolant temp sensor on the water pump sends the main computer the info and it turns the fans on.
