How to tighten steering wheel / tilt
I have a 97 camaro and were the tilt is it is loose I know it is not the whole column just the tilt mechanism. I know their are three bolts that you have to tighten but not sure how. It only is loose to the left side. If you tilt it all the way down it is fine. I did some searching and can't find a how to fix it. Any help would be great.

The reason no one responded is becuase its not a simple repair. There are special tools involved. It can be a lot of work.
Grab the parts manual from the sticky in the fourth gen section of these forums. Go to page 920 in adobe. There are a few things that can cause loosness. Part number 39 is the pivot pin, sometimes the hole the pivot pin goes into wears out (part 46). Most of the time the problem is the screws (61) that hold down 62 pivot base. The upside is there is no parts required so in terms of parts its a cheap repair but you have to completely disassemble the steering colum to get to those bolts. There are a lot of places to get things together wrong.
The dealership takes a pretty good pounding because of its techs but it seems when ever some garage has something they can not fix it ended up in my bay. 3 or 4 times I got cars in that the colums where not together right and could not be figured out by pros. You do a few colum repairs on stolen cars and you will end up knowing GMs design inside and out
