How do i get from Opti distrib to electronic ign on 1994 Z28 lt1 engine ?
I Have a Beautiful 1994 Z28 Loaded, and I wanted to change over to
electronic ignition with coil packs. i have only had the car for 6 months
and have alot to learn. Does anyone know an aftermarket system that is
good ? I just sent the engine out for rebuild and after its back on the road
we wanted to replace the unvented distributor with something better.

This is the only conversion I know of that's compatible with the existing computer:

There was another one out there a few years ago that used the Northstar 4 coil pack, but they are no longer.
This one converts the LT1 over to using the LS1 coil per cylinder setup. But, you have to keep the optispark since it still needs to be used as the optical reader for engine timing and crank position.
The advantage is supposed to be better ignition fire since each cylinder has it's own coil (proven by the LS1). Also, since the opti is now only used as a reader, it's supposed to last longer since it no longer has electricity flying around inside under the cap (one of the major things that craps it up inside). Not to mention the plug wires would be real easy to get to. Let us know how it works if you go that route. I'm presently sitting on an LS1 coil pack setup, considering the same thing.
