Question how to access antenna?

I recently got my camaro and the antenna has been broken off. I have a replacement antenna but it looks like I'm going to have to take everything apart to get the job done. Can anyone tell me how to access it? I know its back behind the spare tire, but how do I take it apart properly?

Yupp^ just take off that back plastic panel and pop out the spare tire if you want to see the wire for it, but it just screws right off

I know the antenna is supposed to screw on and off, but there's not enough of it left that I can grab anything to unscrew. Is there any other way to remove this thing?

woh looks like the base is broken. you may have to drill that sucker out. do you have the whole unit or just the antenna, sure looks like you gona need the whole thing. may be able to get ahold of it with some plyers and turn it. looks like the washer looking deal is part of the threaded nut so try turning it. need to take the unit lose from the tire bracket to drop it out

you have to get at it from underneath. I'm prepping the Z for paint and when trying to unscrew the antenna it also twisted off and broke.

Undo the plastic panel, remove the donut spare tire and there is a plastic brace which holds the antenna mount.

Undo the cable from that mount.

I'm going to the boneyard just to get an antenna but I'm going to try to drill out the broken portion and see if I can install a stud or need to get the part.

If you can wait a week i'll post what I did. I'm in no hurry because I'm priming this weekend and spraying color later this week. Then I'll be re-assembling the car

will do

that's the thing with old cars. Items which should simply scew off are "frozen" on and at times, break. It's reality and you just deal with it. I'll mess around with it this weekend but I need to paint and get it back on the road.

Bumping up

I could not get the section dislodged from the antenna itself nor from the base

I went to the junk yard, found a 4th gen Formula and unscrewed that antenna , unscrewed the collar underneath it, hopped into the car and twisted out the base with the plastic extension

$6 for the antenna and its base

A little black rustoleum on all and it looks brand new

as an aside, I saw 3 3rd gen RS' with all their badges in good shape. Where were all of them when i was restoring my 3rd gen..........
