^^ Thank YOU, jd!As I said, depending on what happens, the plan at the moment is to put an LT1 in my truck, pop a mild cam and port the intake, and put 1.6 ratio rockers on it, then go stroked/cammed/all out LS1 on the '82.

i hope you plan headers and the whole bit for that truck or you'll be choking the cam

Oh heck yeah, already planning on that. Which reminds me btw, with normal SBC headers fit on an LT or do they have special ones like the LSx do? My truck already has headers and it'd be nice to just re-use them and fit an O2 sensor in it.
Alsoooo, is the LT1 oil pan specific to the LTs, or would one from an late model truck fit on it?

go lt1 man they put down better torqe numbers and thats a good start for a heavy 3 gen ya know !!!
another misconception is the torque. weve been over this several times, the torque of an ls1 actually exceedes the lt1 torque at any given rpm. its just that the ls1 doesnt make peak tq until later in the power band (4k-ish). we looked at some dyno graphs in another thread, the 2500rpm tq peak for the lt1 is about equal to the 2500rpm torque of the ls1, the difference is that the lt1 tq starts to drop and the ls1 keeps growing for another 2k.

there are different headers for a ltx engine than a sbc engine...you will need to get ltx specific headers

yes i know that the ls1 puts down more torque at a later rpm , but in a heavier vehical you dont want torque at a later rpm u would want it early on to get the car moving faster if im not mistakin

^^ well, if the torque of an LS1 is the same as an LT1 at the lower rpm, but it still has more torque to make, then why not go LS since it's making more of everything?

then why ask questions if you have already made up your mind?

I hadn't when I started the thread, and I'm still open... like I said, it looks as thought I'll be putting an LT1 in my truck one way or another... and I tend to change my mind up to the last second and I want to know all the pros and cons of both...

u didnt read what i posted......
the torque numbers from the ls1 and the lt1 at the lt1 peak rpm are equal. 2500-3000rpm the motors make about the same torque. from here the lt1 fades a little and the ls1 keeps gaining until 4000 or so.

so for this "heavier vehicle" you are getting the same tq down low with either engine, and then you get a bonus torque up high. I still fail to see why this is so confusing to everyone. they assume that just because the lt1 has a low rpm torque peak its a more torquey engine. its not.
