Exclamation High RPM When driving

Ive had this problem for 6 months now and id like to address the issue. any help will be appreciated

1998 v8 3800 Camaro
5-speed manual

When i start the car it will stall out immediatly unless i give it gas for a few seconds. This happens when i dont drive the car for about 4 hours. Otherwise when i start it, it will shoot up to 2000 rpm and just stay there. Sometimes. It stays at 1000. this will act as the lowest idle unless i shut off the car and turn it back on. I often do this when i drive to reset the idle to 1000. If i accelerate quickly and hit maybe 60 or 70 and pop it in neutral, it will drop to 1000 where it is supposed to be. Sometimes when i coast to a stop light in neutral my rpm's will fluctuate between 2000 and 2200, but when i get below 10mph, it will stay at 2200. Like i said. when she idle's high when im driving, I tend to shut the car off and turn it back on, then the engine idles at 1000. Its very annoying and i dont know how much more my starter can take. There were some days in the summer where it acted perfectly fine with no high idle.

Im thinking maybe a vacume leak, but the lines look hard as hell to get to and i dont have a diagram. Air and feul filter are brand new. i replaced both the TPS and IDLE air contol solinoid on the intake. Check engine light- codes read high idle and TPS read error, even after i replaced the TPS sensor.

so any ideas????
Thanks for the help

i had the exact same problem, with a step further as it didn't want to start sometimes after not driving it for just a little while. turns out, it was the crankshaft position sensor. but seeing as how that didn't come up in your codes and it did mine, it may not be the same. your description reminded me of my own car's behavior. i would try and try to start it, then it would start but i would have to keep the gas down a bit to keep it running. after about 5 minutes i could turn it off then back on and it would either be fine or idle too high. i had that sensor put on today actually and it's been running great so far.

You changed the TPS. It has to be recalibrated ,0.5V closed throttle, 4.5V WOT (check those numbers, not sure if they pertain to camaros)

If you have a TPS read error, it could be that your throttle body is clogged. Carb cleaner spray should do the trick

Also maybe you need to change your IAC Valve?
remember after you change your IAC vavle, you must reset the ECM or ECU, w/e its called for camaros .
