Valves too tight= No start or really bad idle, this will sometimes clear up when you rev the motor do to flex in the valve train. Easy to check for with a vacuum gage, Vacuum gage will jump from 5 to 13 In extremely fast.

Valves too loose= No start or A LOT of noise. The valves should be clapping like me at a Styx concert. Easy to check with a vacuum gage, Vacuum will fall off to almost nothing when you step on the gas.

Another option is a jumped timing chain. Again I going by "Idles great" that something I never heard from someone with valves out of ajustment.

Timing chain jumping would mean a new timing chain. The whole front of the motor has to come off. A very rare issue with the 3.4. The main cause for jumping timing chains is runung up to high RPMs the letting off the gas real fast.

Have you tested the Cat yet, cause it still sounds like Cat to me.

Is there a torque converter sensor? Do you mean the torque converter clutch? Neither have a sensor I am aware of. The PCM knows when the clutch is engaged and can compare RPM to MPH and it could know if it was working if the engineers wanter to monitor it.

The torque converter itself is not controled or monitored, it is just a piece of hardware. Even on a 2011 if the torque converter fails there are no warning light the car djust does not go.
