problem is here, and it seems like there isn't to many who can appreciate, he can't afford to buy another car, and what may be just a matter of saving up 10K for one person, can be some that takes a year or two for someone else. why do you think i haven't stepped up to an LS1? not because i dont want one, but because money is tight.

OP, if it's the car you want and you get it, you will get all the help you need from here.

First off yes it is a 94 with a 3.4 but that's good for fuel economy and insurance and it's a camaro---just what ive wanted. I don't care too much about it not being a super powerful street car at this point in time and will upgrade this car or move on to another car when the time comes (I should mention I'm only 19 with all financial responsibility on me for food, rent, bills, school, etc.). The car is only going to cost me 1200-1400 bucks-I don't think you can beat that. I didn't think that 124k miles on a 94 was too bad at all. The current owner bought the car from a past owner about a year ago, has taken good care of it while in his possession, and the only reason he is selling is b/c he lost his job. One of his good friends is a mechanic and has done most of the work on the car. I will be checking the EGR valve for proper functioning as well as the cleanliness of the valve, hoses, and ports. For the brake light issue, the car needed a brake replacement as well as a new wheel cylinder, which was done, but the brake light remained on (I'm thinking it needs a reset). Again thanks for the replies but the reason for my posting wasn't so much for asking if you guys thought it was a good deal as for asking for some input on the egr valve light and the problem with the car cutting out when put into gear.
I deleted my EGR... pretty sure they are like the appendix of the car anyways... but I don't think it will kill the engine even if it is going out.

There is a sensor on your brake system that turns on the brake light when they need to be changed. this could also mean the rotors are shot too depending on how things have been kept up.

no offense, it sounds to me like you are excited about the car and trying to downplay the issues rather than made it sound worse than it was. I would let it go and wait for one that doesnt have any running issues. stalling when going into gear soudns like it could be the beginning of a huge headache and some wasted money

u have 4 cars listed in your sig.... I doubt you are somehow financially barred from upgrading to an ls1.... I suspect any dealer would take 3 of those off your hands straight up

lol, stig, trust me, i am financially barred.

the cougar was a $500 beater. trying to sell it. guarentee a dealer wouldn't take it.

the 95' diesel is a work truck. yea it's chipped, nice wheels and bed rack, might get $5500 for it. but then i can't work at all.

the 93 is in pieces, awaiting that TT rebuild. why is it waiting? i don't have money.

the camaro, well, it needs a new engine in it. before it blew, in good shape, everything running, new tranny and clutch, and $1000 of other upgrades, i couldn't sell it in late summer for $5500. now i couldnt sell it for $2000

so yea, i am financially barred and i understand what this guy is feeling like maybe.

sorry, i should have added. dealers are taking very few cars for trade ins. most of the trade ins are economical sedans. not trucks and perfomance cars. they offered me 3K for the camaro last year when i tried to trade up to an 98 SS they had sitting in the lot wholesale at $6300

I'd save up a little more and get a 96 plus 3.8 liter. You'll get your fuel economy from it and insurance rates might be a few dollars more but not much. You'll also have a more reliable engine then a 3.4 with the ability to upgrade it alot in the future. You'll also have the obd 2 system which is easier for diagnostics. If it's got problems now it means there's more hidden. Anything with an engine light on is a no go. You don't want to be stoping money into a car as soon as you buy it.

OK if the EGR valve is stuck open it will cause the engine to idle wrong and die at times especally when in gear.

I would also say here that save up the few extra $$$s and try to find a 3.8L engine. It is a much better engine, better performance, better mileage and if you do ever need a new engine in the future there are 6.5 million 3800's out and about so finding one is not too hard.
