Header + engine problems 95z28
Hey i need some advice regarding my headers because I dont know too much about z28 engines. All of the following were installed by previous owner:
borla catback
headers (unknown brand, they have been manually drilled/toned down to increase performance)
camshaft
rollers
other general stuff
So I payed about $1000 to get it fixed for rear main seal oil leak and some other minor things recently. I drove it around that night and next morning, it barely started, after 1min it started to smoke up a bit from underneath, and after i pulled it out i saw oil leaks at different points on the ground (multiple sources?). While I drove it that night the check engine light came on frequently and everytime it did, it would sound/feel like it was gonna die when idling. Also, at high revs, sometimes the power would give out and there would be a very loud noise coming from before the exit of the exhaust (headers leaking?).
My mechanic first said I would need new headers soon, but now he says I can keep them and replace whatever holds them in place because apparently whatever is holding them in place is worn down extremely (cylinder heads i think he called them). He said labor alone is $800 for cylinder heads...im wondering whether or not he is lying/taking advantage, and what options I have at this point.
Any help appreciated guys
