HEADACHES!! DESPERATE NEED OF HELP!
OKAY SO GOT A 98 TRANS AM ITS AUTO TRANNY AND NOT TOO LONG AGO SPUN OUT FUKD UP BOTH REAR AXLES..REPLACED THEM..BEFORE ALL THIS DRAMA MY CAR WAS MAKING A WEIRD NOISE WHEN I SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE (ANY GEAR REALLY) ITS STILL DOING IT CUZ IT MAKES LIKE A clinging sound iono metal maybe?? sooo we thought it was u-joints and its not that..WHAT IN THE WORLD IS IT THEN??!!! it also makes like a whining noise when i turn. its getting worse and still dont know what to do.sometimes it hesitates between 3rd gear but iono really need help any info PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, but your rearend is badly worn. You have excessive wear between the ring and pinion gears, causing a lot of back-lash. The splines in the carrier (where the axles slip into) could also be severley worn and sloppy. Sounds like a rebuild is in the near future.

Backlash can be tuff to diagnose. While it could be as Camaro 69 said it could be where the drive shaft splines meet the tranny splines. It could be almost anything in the rear. It could be in the trans or the engine/trans mounts.
To put it in perspective. At the auto auction when you buy a car sold under a grean light and there is a confirmed case of backlash found afterwards they do not even try to diagnose it. Of course it depends on make/model/milage but most of the time its $1000 to $1500 off the price of the car regardless if its front or rear wheel drive.

Since you managed to damage both axles when you spun out, there is a chance that you may have bent the axle housing, which would make everything that was said even worse.
