Default H pipe or straight pipe?

well im gonna run some pacesetter headers on my 95 Z and i was wondering whats better to run a H pipe setup or a straight pipe. Im looking to get the most possible gain in horse power.

If you're looking for the most gain, I think you should also be considering brands like ARH, Kooks... They have features that Pacesetter lacks.

X pipe would be most ideal, it has the best scavenging effect. Though a full 3" y pipe setup is plenty for a stock LT1 or LS1, but you could also run a 4" Mufflex setup

I think he is trying to talk about exhaust scavenging, which is increased with an X or H pipe. Exhaust scavenging is basically when the low pressure exhaust gases create a sort of vaccumm which helps clear the cylinders and exhaust primaries of all exhaust gases

A V8 fires 2 cylinders in each bank in sequence. If using a full dual exhaust, there will be a momentary increase in back pressure on one side of the exhaust system when the two cylinders fire. The H pipe allows the pressure to be more evenly distributed between the exhaust pipes. This generates a little more power at low RPM, but does nothing much at high RPM. An X pipe is a better way to go as it shows a power increase throughout the RPM range. A properly sized single pipe accomplishes practically the same results, and is a simpler way to go.

I prefer the sound of an X pipe myself

thanks I understand now so based on this I suppose a X pipe is the best setup for HP gain thanks guys
