Default Guide for changing spark plug leads on LS1

Hey all,

Is there a guide for changing spark plug leads on an LS1? I have not looked into it yet so hopefully it is super easy.

What about the dreaded #8 plug, I have heard that is very difficult to replace the plug so I'm hoping the lead is not a big problem.

Any tips/guides will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mine is LT1 but I did recently changed my spark plugs and wires. Removing the starter, using a stubby spark plug through socket and a flexible ratcheting 3/4 inch wrench was a life saver for #8. All in all it really wasn't as tough as I thought it was going to be, not easy but not the nightmare some made it out to be.

Here is a link to that socket.

I found mine on Ebay for less than $20. To my surprise it says "Craftsman" on the side. Maybe it's cheaper at Sears.

the leads themselves are very easy to do, the #8 plug is accessed easily from under the car.

I cannot get to #8 from under my car the exhaust is in the way. I found that removing the coil packs from the top of the valve cover gave me plenty of room to get my hands down there to change the plug and plug the wire in to the plug. Once the coil packs are removed (like 6 bolts and the whole bank of coils comes off) getting to #6 is a little easier too. Since this is one coil per plug you dont have to worry about getting the firing order wrong as you simply line up the plug with the coil in order. I would stay away from the BWD wire set, they make one set of wires for all LS engines and the LS1 and LS3 engines have shorter wires than the 5.3L and 4.8L and all the others but the BWD wires are cut long. They will work but they really look bad and flop all over the place.
