Does anyone know how to defeat the speed governor?

 

You may want to call it a speed limiter. In a automatic trans the Governor is not something you want to defeat.

Speed limits are set at the factory in the PCM. You would need to either find the right hand help tuner, or get a lap top with the proper software and cable. Assuming you do not have access to either the cheapest way to get rid of it is a local tuner or a mail in PCM tuner.

The speed limit used by the factory is set by the tire manufactures. That is where those manufactures are willing to say our tires will do this much. You may want to check the speed rating of your tires since your original tires are long gone. Also if that is a v6 you are already very close to you max speed You may hit 130MPH in the right condition. V8 LT1 should be 150-155 and LS1's about 170. I never had mine that fast but I remember reading the Camaro wind resistance is so much lower then my GTO that it would beat the GTO in a two mile race even though the GTO had 50hp on it.
