a can of liquid sludge can masquerade a lot of ills for a couple hundred miles; namely, how long it takes to bring to a mechanic.

$1,000 car is a throwaway item. It should not be viewed as a reliable daily driver

Sawdust will keep a rod from knocking long enough to trade it in

I'm in the same situation as you, Sanders. My 94 z28 is my first car, I've had it for about 11 months now, and I finally get my learner's permit on the 31st. Mine has 115k miles on it, the transmission was shot, the interior was pretty nice, but the front bumper was torn up and the paint was bad, bought it for $1200. We've got the transmission rebuilt, a new bumper, ss hood, z06 wheels, and the next thing on the list is paint.

This car is going to be my daily driver as it would for you, and before you buy it, make sure you take it for a test-drive to see if you like driving it, because I've driven mine in a parking lot, and you can't see the front of the car due to the way it slants down and you can't really see the passenger-side corner of the hood either, so it may not be ideal to some people to drive because of this. I figure i'll get used to it, though.

Don't feel bad, I've been driving cars longer than you've been on this earth...and I can't judge where the front of this car is either...lol...I have a body kit and I am forever hitting the nose on curbs...either that or I stop so far away for fear of hitting the curb that the a$$ end is hanging out in traffic...lol

Lmao, my Dad tells me all the time "I know you're going to be hitting the nose on things all the time..so don't get upset when it gets scraped up or pushed in"

I hope I don't hit it or anything, but I'm sure that being inexperienced will lead to better chances I hit or scrape it on something, lol.

I'm sure once I get used to driving it, it'll be a little easier.
