Default Gasoline Fumes/Fuel Pump Issues. Please Help!

Okay so last fall my fuel pump went out. I used the hatch method to replace it. Car ran fine afterwords. I used to fill my car every time I put gas in it and it just barely went over the full mark. Now it goes WAY over the full mark when I fill it and it smells like gasoline in my car for a few days when I fill it.

Another thing I had some issues with is that before I put this pump in, it would never take more than 15-15.5 gallons of gas to fill my car. Now I can pump 17 gallons into my car when it's between E and 1/8 on the gauge. My car only has a 15.5 gallon tank.

So basically I wanna know why my gauge is reading wrong now, why I smell gas in the car when its full, and why the heck I'm able to fit 17 gallons of fuel in a 15.5 gallon tank.

All of this started right after I put the new fuel pump in the car.

Thanks in advance!

Oh here's a pic of the fuel gauge right after filling the tank last week. See how far it is over the full mark. It used to only get just barely above it but so the needle was still touching the full mark.

The needle isn't a problem. Mine goes that far all the time. As for the smell check and make sure you pump is sealed. That could
Be the cause of the smell and why so Much extra fuel is going in.

did you use stock oem pump or one that the pump is open in the tank. i have gotten 16 in mine but i was outa gas. your filling the fill pipe and you must have a small leak at the clamp or could be the tank seal or one of the evap hoses. be a good idea to check the evap canister to see if its full of fuel. oh and when your putting fuel in the car dont put more fuel in after it clicks unless you know its a bogus click. you can fill the evap canister with gas. check your fuel lines all the way up for any signs of leaks.

I used a OEM pump. Where is the evap canister? Should it have fuel in it or no?

evap canister is behind the rear driver side wheel under a plastic cover. sticky in the lt1 section. its got charcoal in it to catch and hold gas fumes until the evap vacumm sucks them out. it is not suposed to have liquid gas in it.

Okay. Does the sticky tell how to remove it and check it for fuel?

If you smell gas with a full tank and you can pump more and over-fill it, then it sounds like you have a leak in your filler neck.

Did you install a new sending unit to tank seal, or reuse the old one to create a possible leak?
