How can you drive a camaro and never have an urge to floor it?

lol thats easy once youve had buy new parts to repair a few things....you learn not to dog it.
I have a 2000 z28 with an SS hood, SLP lid with K&N filter, flowmaster muffler, some engine work(porting all the way around etc), a lot of tuning, and most of my driving is on the highway. I get an average of about 41 miles to the gallon and I still manage to have a 7.25 1/8th mile and I've topped it out at about 162 before ^^;
I thought I'd do an update now that I have put enough miles (2010) on to get some numbers. This is for a 1998 Z28 LS1 automatic coupe with the performance rear axle.
When I picked the car, I drove home cautiously on I75 at 73 mph with the cruise most of the way from St. Petersburg to Ocala. With an expired tag, I wasn't out to get attention, and I got 23.15 mpg.
Next two tanks, I got 16.65 and 16.46 mpg. I may have just had my foot in it too much, as the second of those is when I made a 135 mph pass running down to Sumter County Fairgrounds for the swap meet.
I did three days of around town stuff, then hit the road to Fort Lauderdale, running 291 miles and 13.633 gal for 21.35 mpg. Thatdoesn't soundgreat, but I had three days of in-town stuff and the trip was running 85-90 much of the way.
The way back was up US27, a divided four lane through several small towns, and a bit of limited access on the turnpike. Much of it (about 160 miles), I burned up the road to get back for a Christmas party, and got 23.29 mpg for the 320 miles.
The next four tanks went 20.89, 20.34, 17.29, and 20.09 mpg. I'm not sure what made the one so much lower. All were basically around town stuff except the second which included a fast run down to Tampa.
In 2010 miles, I have an average of 19.95 mpg overall.
For comparison, our Toyota Highlander with the 4 cyl for economy, has around 21.1 mpg average in its 25,000 miles. Its low is around 20.4 mpg and its high is around 22.6 mpg.

I get close to 20mpg with my car. It's an LT1 with a 6speed and mods in sig. That's mostly town driving and going WOT every once in a while. Not really too much since it's so cold that the car kicks sideways as soon as I hit it anyways. I factored it up by taking the amount of miles I had on it at a half a tank and dividing that by 7.75 since our tanks are 15 gal and that'd be half. So, it may not be completely accurate, but pretty darn close. It does seem like the last half goes a lot quicker than the first half though.
I just bought my 94' LT1. I just filled up for the first time since I bought it (last week) and I got 14.9 MPG.
I bought from a mechanic but I don't think he took as good care of his own car as he did the cars he worked on at the dealership.
I am going to do new plugs, fuel injector cleaner (lucas of course!), new cap and rotor, and check wires. I think those alone should get more a few more MPG. I may look into an aftermarket intake (paper or green filter - no K&N).
