Default Fuel pump replacement on convertible

has anyone replaced the fuel pump on a 98 camaro convertible using the hatch method shown on this forum? I was told this method may not work on the convertible.

I wouldn't do it on a convertible. The chassis is already weaker than a hard top and cutting a hole in the unibody, regardless of how well you patch it up, will hurt integrity. Let's see what the more experienced members have to say about it though

My first thought is, you should be able to do the hatch method on your convertible. It's easy enough to check, just remove the carpet on the back hump and see if you can see where you need to cut. But on second thought, I think the problem maybe when you try to get the pump out; The assembly is pretty tall and it might bump into the crossbar that holds the top/Trunk in place. I did it without any problem on a 2000 convertible, but the cut is closer to the trunk on the newer cars. Of course, you could order a new assembly and see if it clears the bar before you make the cut.

Javs may have a point about structural integrity, but I really don't know.

98 should be the same as your 2000 so it should work.

This is the picture I used to make my cut. I measured the horizontal cut between the grooves, and was able to determine how long to make my verticle cut.

As you can see, the newer cars require a much smaller cut.

Default fuel pump

wish I would have seen this earlier, i just paid to have it done. I pulled the carpet back and it looked like there wouldn't be enough room due to the conv. top storage.
