Default fuel pressure gauge

Has anyone relieved the pressure on the fuel system with out the fancy expensive fuel pressure gauge that is specified in the Haynes manual? Seems I read somewhere to pull the fuse on the fuel pump and start the car, it may run for a moment but then should stop at which time the pressure should be relieved. Anyone know if this is true with my 97 Z28? I'm anticipating replacing my fuel filter.
Thanks!
Jeff

Was just reading Shbox's page and he says just push the schraeder valve after loosening the gas cap. Sounds OK to me, like there is not a ton of pressue anyway? Any one else done it this way?
Thanks!
Jeff

Use a piece of cloth if you push the valve in. Don't want to get sprayed with fuel and wipe up any excess to prevent a fire next time you start the engine.
