Default Fuel filter change gone wrong

replaced my springs and shocks/struts today so i said what the hell why not replace my fuel filter while im at it

i get down there and start foolin around with it, release gas pressure etc. and go to remove the actual filter, unfortunately for me whoever had this car before was a complete dumbass, they tried to remove it with what i determined to be pliers so now my fuel line bolt/nut thing is ruined

conclusion
1. i need a new fuel line (just the metal part)

2. and also that fuel filter has been on there way to long and could have caused some/is causing serious damage

2 things that should not be in any tool box.

1. pliers
2. adjustable wrench.

I keep mine in the glovebox right next to the owner's manual.
