frustrated...
So since ive owned my car the A/C has never worked. last friday i took my car to get the coolant flushed and refilled and had a dye put in it to check for leaks. all and all it cost me about 120 bucks... when i picked up the car the shop said everything worked fine and that there were no noticable leaks and he told me to come back next week to see if there were any small leaks in the system. but by the time i got the car back to my house the AC had stopped working entirely. So i brought the car back today to have them look at it again and they noticed there were two large holes in the compressor and it would be hundreds of dollars to a grand to fix. im not giong to pay that much to fix it, im just a little pissed that they couldnt see the two large holes before they told me there were no leaks and i shelled out 120 bucks to have AC for 15 min.
but this leads me to another point. im planning on putting some headers on my car in the near future. when i do them should i just remove the compressor? It doing nothing and im pretty sure it weighs a few hefty pounds. I know taking it out will make the belt not fit, but im sure its possible to get one that will fit without the AC

I can tell you this much, if you take out your compressor and remove the AC lines it'll make the plugs and the first header bolt on the passenger side much easier to put on. I'd say if you can't fix it, may as well not carry around the dead weight!

You can get specially made belts for this. You posted that they did a 'cooling system flush' with the dye to look for leaks, isnt that for the radiator? they wouldnt notice a hole in the compressor if they weren't looking for one, or did I missunderstand the post. Anyways, you could go to a junk yard and pull a compressor of an old car and save a bundle by doing it yourself, put the headders on then replace the compressor.
