I think I'm going to take the cash and use it on a reman Cardone WP. Mine had signs of leaking out the weep hole so might as well get another while it's off to avoid that future problem.

Would it be ok to put everything back on without torquing to spec with torque wrenches, if I snug them up enough would that be sufficient? Having trouble getting my hands on some torque wrenches so I can finish.

Somewhere in Indy, but after spending what I had on the seals and distributor its a bit tight for awhile. Not to mention I gotta find the cash for the WP now. I'll eventually get things going.

For reference when I put everything back on, I want to have the plugs, wires, and opti all hooked up before I put everything else back on. Reason is I would like to try and test the opti in some way to make sure it isn't DOA. Would this be ok to do?

Basically since the opti is the first thing to go back on I don't want to mess with putting the hub, wheel, WP etc back on to find out the opti may be bad. Can I leave the rest off while I try to crank it over and see if it fires or will it do damage not having the crank hub and pulley on? I'm sure someone has done something like this before to test the opti before wasting time putting everything back on.

As long as you fire it up and shut it off quickly, it'll be alright. A quick test isn't going to hurt a thing with no water pump on. But without the hub on, you'll have no seal at the crank. So to avoid an oily mess, don't run it more than long enough to know it works.

Yea, I figured just a quick start to check if it fires up would be ok. I'll be sure that my opti is on correctly before hand. If it starts then I assume it's a good to go sort of thing. loctite the rotor screws and rtv the cap also. Wont have a new WP until next week but I can get everything on and ready to go since the wp is last anyway.

Ok change of plans, this has taken me awhile so I'm a bit behind.

The plan was to put some rtv on the rear of the pan and the front where it meets the timing cover. Well, without raising the engine or dropping the y-pipe this was a pain. I managed to get the pan gasket on but I would rather not move it anymore since it took me forever to get it on while snaking it around the pan and all that. I can still put some rtv on the rear but it would most likely be between the gasket and block, is that a good idea? If I did the front, I can probably squeeze some in between the pan and gasket, things aren't sitting right I guess but will be fine once I tighten it up.

It's the FelPro set so it says that it doesn't need any rtv, and some have said it actually hurts the seal....? What should I do?

**EDIT** slightly slid the gasket back and will be able to get rtv between gasket and timing cover where it belongs. Also, the rear will be good to go as well. It wasn't sitting right because it wasn't over the lip and partially sat inside the pan when I pushed it back up onto the block. I should be good to go now.
