Fair?
UPDATE:
I got a call to pick it up today. When I got there the guy told me that after he talked to me yesterday while replacing the coil he found out that it wasn't my coil that in fact it was the control module that the coils sit on. He never called me to tell me that and when I showed up I had to pay 325 instead of 131. The part was ~250 and told me he only charged me for a diagnostic labor because it was already torn apart when he found it out. I wasn't happy but what can I do in that situation? I don't know anything about it so I can't tell if I'm being ripped off. I've been to these guys a few times and I'm confident they're not bad guys but I would have liked for them to call me before I show up and pay twice as much. Any opinions?

whenever i drop off a car i tell the mechanic that I must be contacted before ANY work is done that I am unaware of. Something similar happened to me w/ my rear end and i had almost all the labor taken off because i raised hell. still ended up spending more than i anticipated though....
Small claims court. I took mine to the local dealership for a quote because the window died 3 inches from the top. The service manager said off hand it would be about $150. To replace the regulator. So they took it to the back, he came out to tell me that it was indeed the regulator. I told him I will think about it and get back to him. I expressly told him not to do anything to it that would incur a cost without asking me. Went outside to wait for my car, the window was up and they wanted to charge me $80 for the labour of putting the window up for me (he broke some plastic pieces while doing it too). I told him I wasn't paying it and they wouldn't let me take my car. Stupidly, they parked it outside so I went home, got my spare keys and took my car back. Took the dealership to small claims court got charge taken off, my keys back and my court costs paid.
