Default Engine Swap

I have a 95 camaro base. I'm looking to swap out the engine for something with a little more kick. I'm trying to figure out what my options are and the pros and cons of each. Im pretty attached to the car so I'd rather swap something in even if I was buying a new faster camaro just to swap out. I figured my options are swapping from a similiar year z28, or possibly a later camaro with the ls1 engine, but also putting in a crate engine. I wouldn't be able to do them myself but my mechanic is willing. I was just wondering how each would work and what else I would need to change with each like trans or exhaust.

You need to do some searching, engine swaps are asked on here a ridic amount.

But to try and swap to a lt1 or ls1 will require a full donor car; hell even swapping to the 3.8 would require one as well.

In the V6 tech section there is a swap thread sticky, It starts as a joke but if you read thru the whole thing there is a lot of info and links in there what will help you. Also check out the 4th gen Projects area, there are few people doing swaps.

IMO if you V6 is running good let it be. Tearing into a good working car does not make sense when you can buy Z28's with blown head gaskets for around $1000. The LT1 and LS1s are in demand because people are putting them in all kinds of projects. A wrecked car with a good motor and trans is worth more then a nice car in need of engine repair.

From a money point of view its like this. Right now your V6 is worth $2500 in good working order. You will have to buy a wrecked doner car with a decent engine will cost you $1800. Add in the noraml wear items you would want to replace like Plug, wires, mounts, hoses etc add $500. Now add in about 100 hours of labor In the end you would have a car worth about the same as your v6 but it will be very hard to sell, no one buys converted cars.

That is $2300 out of pocket and 100ish hours of labor
In the end its worth a total of $2500

Or

Keep your $2500 as is, Buy a Z28 with a blown head gasket $1200. Rebuld the top end of the motor. Replace all the wear items listed above put the upper engine kit. $850 in parts. That should take about 20 hours of labor.

That is $2050 out of pocket and 20ish hours of labor
In the end you have your beloved $2500 V6, and a $3500 Z28 with a fresh top end.
