EGR valve is melting!

EGR valve is melting!
I have a 1993 camaro w/ 3.4 v6 motor. My Egr valve is running hot and is melting not only its self but my wiring harness and ignition wires. I changed the egr valve, wires and alternator and even the battery but the problem still persists now im losing horsepower as well. This has already cost me $400 and is frustrating.

RE: EGR valve is melting!
I have had the SES light for sometime. The car won't let me run codes due to the ses light staying on. The egr started running hot and was melting the plastic that is on it and anything near it about 3 weeks ago, i stopped driving it and changed the valve.I changed it and its still doing it. Now the car stalls out or tries to, i have a warranty on the valve so i should be able to return it.

I'm not sure bout that last question. From the sound of it though, it seems as though the EGR valve is stuck open. I don't understand why it won't let you run codes. That's the point of the SES light, to let you know you have a problem and what it is... AutoZone or similar places have scanners and will read the codes for free. Try one of them and let us know.

The problem is that AutoZone and most other places that do free scans have equipment that can scan OBDII cars only. The 93 is OBDI, You need to go to a good repair shop, pay your $30-40 and get a proper scan. I doubt very much that the KS has anything to to do with the EGR cooking. Like 02StangGt said, the EGR is stuck open for some reason, and allowing too much hot exhaust to go through. There is also a possibility that the exhaust is partially blocked and the back pressure forcing excessive gas through the EGR.
