Why don't you find out what the Service Engine Soon light is wanting you to know, and stead of trying to find a band aid fix so it won't come on.

mmm ok, its just that it is weird that at exactly 1/4 temp the service engine soon light comes on... so maybe i was thinking about scanning it

Scanning it would be the first logical step. And I'm gonna say you have a bad sensor.
When the engine is cold, your system is in "open loop" mode, and the engine runs mostly on the ECM's presets. When the engine gets hotter (a little over 100 degrees) the engine's temp sensor (not gauge sending unit) tells the computer to put the system into "closed loop" mode. Now your air/fuel flow is registered and adjusted by all your sensors. By taking out your stat, you're just prolonging the time the coolant takes to get hot, and just keeping the system in "open loop" longer.
