I have been making some repairs with my car after putting it into a ditch last winter... slid off the road at 5mph... it's amazing how much damage can be done at low speeds. I have already replaced my oil pan, and right rear tire. Everything seemed fine for a few months when the car started to vibrate almost like a flat tire. After making sure that the tire that was replaced was balanced properly I finally took it to a shop when my exhaust started to rattle. Come to find out my tranny mount needed to be replaced. I ended up replacing this myself and that took a lot of the vibrating out of the car, however, I still have a slight vibration. I have narrowed this down to what I can only think would be when the car went into the ditch I tweaked my drive shaft and after a few months of driving the car it is slowly getting more and more out of balance. My question is this: Would it be more cost effective to take it to a shop and have them re-balance the drive shaft, buy a brand new one, or see if any of the local salvage yards have any? I guess I am leary of getting one out of a salvage yard due to not knowing what kind of shape it is going to be in.

Any ideas?

 

its probably the bearing in the driveshaft, they cant be fixed. if i were you id hit the junkyards and find a 1 piece driveshaft, any camaro/bird 82-02.

 

I wasn't sure, but that wouldn't suprise me. I really didn't want to spend $300 for a new driveshaft if I could find one cheaper. I guess I will hit the salvage yards and see what I can find. The vibrations aren't too bad right now, but I don't want to wait too long and mess up the tranny mount and have to replace it again.

 

We have the same car and I can show you what happens when they're hit at 45 mph lol.

I had a deer hit me... I was going about 20 and it hit my front fender. Not a lot of damage, but enough to **** me off

My fourth gen doesn't leave the castle when we have snow or ice.

 

$100 Aluminum one pc driveshaft. Check ebay. Nice upgrade and if your has the center bearing your going to lose about 60 lbs in the process.
