Default Door stays locked when running

Hi guys! I'm new here my name is Clarissa. My hubby bought me my very first Camaro yesterday. She's a 2001.

I discovered that when I start the car up the doors automatically lock...and stay locked. Even the drivers side. I can't slide the lock to unlock it and I can't open the door.

Once I shut the car off the doors unlock and I am able to get out.

I was wondering if this is common in these cars. It kinda worries me that I can't get out of my car when it's running. I feel...well trapped.

Any advice?

Hi Clarissa,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your first Camaro.

The doors do lock automatically when the engine is started but you should be able to unlock them with the door unlock switch above the window switches, they will not open with the door lever. You can program this to not happen if you wish plus all the other functions for the locking system. Check your owners manual and it tells you how to find out how to program these functions.

Good luck

You know, Clarissa, it is not a good idea to get out of the car while it is moving. lol
