Default Do you think this is a good deal?

Hey guys, looking at crossing over to the dark side and getting a Camaro. I love my 01 GT but it just boned me too many times, just like my S197 did, just like my fox body did. Moving on to a real mans car.

This is the Camaro I'm looking at : 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, $11,900 - Cars.com

I'm going to try to talk them down to 9500. If I can get it at that price would if be a good deal, in your opinion.

Do you like these cars? Had good experiences with them? Pretty good after market? Easy to work on? I don't suppose I'll be able to get this pushrod motor to sounds like the 4.6 though will I? =(

If I test drive it and the engine runs smooth, clutch is tight, and the trans doesn't grind, would you say it's a good deal?

Thanks guys. Pretty excited to have a V8 with some real torque and displacement for once

EDIT: The engine pic also shows and SLP logo on the front. Does that mean this is a SS model?

yeah if the mileage is accurate that's a hell of a deal. I paid 9500 for my 98 SS with 46k on the odometer 2 years ago. changing the plugs can be a pain in the butt, the ls1 though is a great motor the responds well to mods. you can get them sounding pretty nasty with a cam swap. since the car you are looking at is a 2002 it already has the LS6 intake (Corvette Z06) stock. the sound of the ls1 depends on the exhaust. all the major companies have cat backs, you can run true duals, or do custom. Ill post some videos of different cam and exhaust combos so you can compare to the 4.6

GM hot cam, very small upgrade but good sound and doesn't take a huge hit to drivability

224/224 112 lsa - most preferred cam on LS1 tech for being a great all around cam. the lsa is what determines really how hard it can chop

224/228

228R

MS3 - big cam really takes a hit on drivability

Yeah I like that! The first sound clip just sounds mean. The 4.6 sounds "pretty" and has a hollow tone to it. Kind of like an exotic.

This is more muscle car.

Well, too bad it's sunday or I'd swing out there. I'll keep ya posted! =)

Also, is this an SS?

No it's just a Z28, ss cars had a scooped hood and a different spoiler also in the door is a sticker with all the options and wu8 is a ss car

What are the differences between the SS and the regular Z28? Is it like the differences between the GT and the Cobra?

Also what Trans comes with these cars? It isn't a T56 is it??

Depends on what version of "SS" was ordered, but any where from minor visual differences to actual HP difference, up to 345Hp.

Manuals got the T-56 and the autos got the 4L60E. You seem scared that it has a T-56.

But that's a good deal for that. Even more if you can get it for $9500 or even $10k.

you will snap the rear end in a 4th gen before a t-56. the rear end is the weakest link in the drivetrain in a 4th gen f body

You might want to ask the dealer why that car was sold at a salvage auction on January 20, 2014 out of Aurora, IL? I'd be just a little bit curious.

Wonder if "wind damage" means wind knocked a tree over on it.
