do I need an air pump?
96 3.8. import from japan to the UK, checked my fuse block and oh... no air pump relay, obvious question really... do I need one, its for smog control isnt it.
Also... no cold from the air con.... doubt its been topped up, I can get one of those kits and do it myself, one with the pressure gauge. sticker on the engine says ... dont because the sytem is under high pressure, any words of advice for me on these 2.also... brakes wont stop squeeling since I changed pads and rotors, my mech says live with for 6 months and maybe the pads will wear down enough to accomodate, caliper positions. Thats a non starter I guess.

if u want to pass any polution tests u will need the air pump functioning. u can try to recharge ac and see if it works. be careful and read all directions. if u have sticky calipers they will wear and overheat the rotors.
does the sticky calipers... mean I have to get new ones or can I lube. Had no noise with old pads, just with the new setup
also a fuel smell question, I get quite a strong gas smell, from my vent tube next to the filler cap, after driving. I do have LPG system fitted so wonder if that has anything to do with it, heard about the “ghost‘ smell too, maybe that.
thanks

I figured out the hard way... gas caps do go bad. haha wasn't in a camaro but a mustang on a long road trip... car died and would not start (was a pain in the a$$ but it turned out to be the gas cap). the smell could be that.
did you put the lil tube of break stuff on your pads when you changed them? not exactly sure what it is... but it comes with the pads and it does make a diff.

never heard of puting stuff on the pads. always been taught not to get anything on the pads. no the gas cap is not vented the fuel system is a closed system so the cap needs to seal. there is a relief valve somewere in it but its a sealed system. ever notice a air release sound when u take the cap off a car to fuel up.
For your squeaky brakes, go to Auto Zone, or any parts store, and pick up some "Disc Brake Quiet."
You spread it around on the back side of the pad, and let it setup a bit. Metal on metal from the caliper piston contacting the back of the pad is a common cause of brake squeaks. It's easy to do, and it works. I just used some this morning, night and day difference.
You can get a spray on, or a spread on kind.
I used the one on the bottom of the page: Disc Brake Quiet

hay camaro 69 does that stuff help with sticky brakes? i think hes talking about a constant squeel. wouldnt that be something on the pads like oil, or the calapers are sticking.
I just had a constant and rhythmic squeak-squeak-squeak, and it stopped as soon as I hit the brake pedal. Hmmm....squeal or squeak? It depends on what he meant by "squealing".
It still could be that the pads are wanting to be coated on the back, especially if it wasn't done in the first place. Was break cleaner used on the rotor and pad surfaces to clean off any goop? Rotors usually come with a rust preventative coating that you want to remove, and the pads can get greasy while handling them during the install.
Would be a good idea to take the pads out, clean the rotors and pads with brake cleaner, and coat the backs of the pads with anti-squeak. New pads and rotors shouldn't be making noise.
