The LS6 is the same displacement of the LS1 (346ci), it just has a more aggresssive cam, an intake manifold that flows better and heads and valve train that are significantly better than the LS1, allowing the LS6 to put out 405 HP at the crank.
Not to mention that the C5R engine, which is based off the same block as the LS1 and LS6 displaces 427ci (approx. 7.0L) and has the exact same dimensions, they just differ the bore and the stroke of the motor. The LS2, LS3 and LS7 are a different sized block than the LS1 and LS6, but they're still about the same size. It's kinda the same thing with the traditional SBC, the 305,327,350,383,396 are all the same block, it just depends on how much bore and stroke you have on the piston.
